An East Evanston home that made national headlines when the bodies of three dead siblings were found inside has sold.
1216 Judson, listed for $675,000, sold as is for $625,000 on Feb. 22. It was on the market for nine days.
Police found the bodies of Margaret Bernstorff’s brother and two sisters who had died of natural causes. One of the sisters had died in the 1970s. The bodies were kept in separate rooms inside the home.
The Bernstorff family had owned the home since the 1920s. Margaret now lives in a nearby nursing home.
None of the siblings ever married or had children. The Bernstorff family was very private and somewhat reclusive, neighbors said. Bernstorff’s father was a professor of German studies at Northwestern University.
In other news, an East Wilmette mansion once owned by convicted developer and political fundraiser, Tony Rezko, is under contract after two weeks on the market.
1250 Chestnut is listed at $3,587,900 and went under contract on Feb. 26. The home has 8,596 square feet with 30 rooms, seven bedrooms, 9.3 bathrooms and a coachhouse.
Rezko held a political fundraiser at the home in 2003 for Obama’s senate campaign.
The 2008 taxes were $67,811.44. The mansion is being sold as is. Rezko purchased the home in 1999 for $1,900,000.
